Aware of the golden age that camper tourism has been experiencing in recent years, more and more manufacturers decide to incorporate new preparations for their vans into their catalog. Renault has just followed suit after presenting the new Trafic SpaceNomad at the 2021 Caravan Show in Düsseldorf (Germany), a version that until now was only available in Switzerland, but which will now also reach some European countries.
To make this project a reality, the firm of the rhombus has decided to join forces with the French specialist Pilote. This is how this new camper van was born that takes the base of the Trafic model and includes a series of modifications and equipment that allow traveling with the house in tow. The new Renault Trafic SpaceNomad may be associated with different configurations, with capacity for four or five passengers and two body lengths (5.08 and 5.48 meters).
At the front of the cabin of the new Trafic SpaceNomad we find two individual seats They can rotate 180º to orient themselves towards the interior of the van. This second area has a table in the central part, different storage furniture and a fully equipped kitchen with two burners, sink and tap. The French van also includes a 49-liter capacity refrigerator.
For its part, drop down ceiling supports a bed (2 x 1.2 meters) that allows two passengers to stay overnight. At the bottom, we find a second bed (1.88 x 1.24 meters) which gives two other adults the chance to spend the night inside the new SpaceNomad Traffic. To guarantee interior privacy and cover the entry of light, the windows have interior blinds.
If we focus on the exterior of the van, the transformation proposed by the Pilote team includes a 2.2 x 2.35 meter side awning, which allows you to create a terrace where you can sit down to eat or hang out. The equipment is completed with an outdoor shower.
In front of the driving position we find an eight-inch touch screen for gmanage the Renault Easy Link infotainment system offering compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. We also find a wireless charging surface for mobile phones compatible with this type of technology. At the same time, the Renault Trafic SpaceNomad inherits all the driving assistants that we find in the rest of the range. Among them, the active emergency braking system, lane departure warning, blind spot warning and driver attention control system.
On a mechanical level, the new camper van from the French manufacturer can be associated with a mechanical offering that includes engines between 110 and 170 hp, with options for manual or automatic transmission. Its launch date is scheduled for the first quarter of 2022. Initially, will be marketed in five European countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark and France. Depending on its commercial success, it could also reach other countries later. To know your price list we will still have to wait a few months.
Finally, Renault also wanted to take advantage of the German sample to present a new conceptual model: the Renault Trafic Hippie Caviar Hotel. This prototype has been designed around the idea of creating a vehicle with all the level of luxury and comfort typical of a five-star hotel. Although it will never be produced, this project anticipates some development that could reach the camper segment in the coming years. Among them, the use of electric propulsion technology, the application of sustainable materials on the elements of the interior and the incorporation of new solutions to enjoy a nomadic lifestyle.
