The Ferrari BB 512i was the first model from the Maranello-based brand to mount a mid-mounted 12-cylinder boxer engine.

Thus, the V12 block of the Ferrari BB 512i it produced a power of 340 hp at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 451 Nm at 4,200 rpm. Weighing 1,580 kg, the Italian sports car was capable of reaching a top speed of 257 km/h. He also tried to attack the endurance races of the time, with the Ferrari BB 512 LM, with relative success: victory in the GTX category and fifth place overall in the 1981 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Its production was approximately 1,000 copies and its design and technology led the way to produce future mid-engined models such as the mythical Testarossa (which also had the name of 512).
