My girlfriend and I want to buy a compact diesel of about 100 HP for our day to day, but also to travel regularly we will travel about 25,000 km per year). For this reason, we value low consumption, a good boot and a nimble feel. By design, we really like the previous generations of the Opel Astra and the Mazda 3 5-door. Which one would you recommend us?
For this budget, you can choose units of 2016 and with about 75,000 km of the Astra 1.6 CDTi 110 CV or the Mazda 3 1.5 SkyActiv-D. They are very similar cars in terms of performance, trunk (the Astra is only 6 L larger) and official consumption, but in terms of actual spending, the Mazda is somewhat more economical since, on mixed routes, it spends about 5.5 L / 100 km versus approx. 5.8 L / 100 km from the Opel.

Both engines offer power to travel at a good pace (or calm if you circulate fully loaded), although the Mazda is somewhat more refined than the Astra, which vibrates more. In return, the Opel has a slightly more forceful response from 1,800 rpm. In motion, the Mazda 3 was a reference for its agility and dynamic feel, although its firm suspension could be uncomfortable on bad roads and, especially, if it mounts 18 ″ wheels.
For its part, the Astra is somewhat more comfortable, but is a little behind in behavior. Regarding interior space, in these
two models will be comfortable four adults up to 1.85 meters (The Opel is slightly more spacious in the rear seats). For finishes, they offer well-fitting plastics, however, the Mazda’s finish is a bit more luxurious than that of the Opel.
