Signus publishes the evaluation report of the third business plan for the prevention of end-of-life tires

The most important advances included in the report are related to the mileage performance and the weight reduction of the tire.

Signus has just presented the Annual Global Evaluation Report of the III Business Plan for the Prevention of End-of-Life Tires corresponding to the 2018-2021 financial year that includes the measures taken by different manufacturers, importers and intra-community customers to prevent the accumulation of end-of-life tyres.

Let us remember that the Royal Decree 1619/2005 in its article 3 it establishes the obligation that producers (manufacturers and importers) have to prepare and send to the autonomous communities a Business Prevention Plan to minimize the generation of waste and effects on the environment.

The main objective of this plan is to detect possible solutions to extend the useful life of tires and facilitate reuse, recycling and, ultimately, a second life for end-of-life tiresincorporating measures to prevent the generation of waste adopted throughout the different phases of the tire’s life: design and production, distribution, consumption and use.

In total, the producers attached to Signus have introduced 986 measurements in this monitoring report. Of all of them, 41 correspond to eco-design measures carried out by manufacturers. Compared to previous plans The most outstanding advances have to do with the increase in kilometric performance, between 5% and 20%, depending on the type of compound; and tire weight reduction of up to 6%.

This evaluation, with the results obtained, has been shared with the different autonomous administrations involved, as well as with the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge. With all these data on the table, Signus has already announced that it is working together with its producers, in the preparation of the IV Business Prevention Plan for the period 2022-2025.
