Uber Green: the Uber service with 100% electric vehicles starts in Madrid

Uber launches its new Uber Green service in Madrid, a mobility platform with exclusively electric-powered vehicles.

Uber has just presented its new Uber Green service in Madrid, which already allows users to travel in electric propulsion vehicles with the same prices as the service UberX of the company.

The presentation ceremony, which took place at the Uber headquarters in Madrid with the assistance of the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz-Ayuso, was also attended by the Ministers of Economy and the Environment and various both public and private institutions that are committed to sustainable mobility in Spain.

Uber has announced its commitment to become a zero emission mobility platform in 2040, and this strategy includes the launch of Uber Green in Madrid. The first Spanish city to offer this service – in Europe there are already more than 60 cities – will initially offer a fleet of 70 vehicles that will provide service inside the M-30 ring road, although the plans are to extend coverage to the entire Spanish capital in the coming months.

This is how Uber Green works: with the same app and the same prices as Uber

Users who want to use Uber Green can use the same Uber app, and with the same account and payment method. Within the application, Uber Green has a specific section.

The operation is the same as for Uber: the user indicates the collection point and the destination in the app, and the system reports the minutes that must wait until the arrival of the service, with the data of the driver and the vehicle. The prices are equivalent to those of the conventional service, and payment can be made through the app or in cash. The system that allows drivers to be assessed is maintained, to guarantee the same quality of service.

Objective: to electrify the taxi and VTC sector

Along with the presentation of the new Uber Green service, the company has also announced the signing of collaboration agreements with Banco de Santander and Repsol, with the aim of promoting the transition towards the electric vehicle in Spain.

This agreement contemplates, for example, discounts of up to 21% on contracts to use Repsol’s electric recharging network, or two free recharges per month at its public charging stations and a 50% discount on balance in the Waylet application for Uber drivers who contract the Repsol electricity rate at their homes.

As for the Banco de Santander, it will provide facilities to self-employed drivers of taxi and VTC services for the acquisition of electric vehicles under especially favorable conditions.

Uber Green is one of the services that the company offers in Europe, where it also has UberX, Taxi, Uber Comfort, Uber Pet and Lime electric scooters, among others.
